Sustainability Spring School:

Systems Thinking for the SDGs

April 8 to 13, 2019

Millennium Institute & Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Sustainability (ERASME)

Location: Polytech Clermont-Ferrand (France)

Learning objectives
This one-week intensive course focuses on the development of a systemic perspective for SDG implementation planning. Upon completion of the course, participants will have enhanced their understanding of system structures that interconnect the SDGs. They will be able to use that framework to facilitate strategic thinking and the coordination of actions to achieve the Goals. The course is structured for between 20 and 25 participants.
Methodology
The methodology is based on the most effective didactic instruments of systems thinking and simulation. It combines elements of exposition, with elements of scenario-based learning and collaborative learning. In particular, this short course will make use of gaming, group work, and simulation techniques, to ensure a shared knowledge creation, and to encourage learning through practical application.
Materials
Participants will be provided with a booklet covering the main contents of the course, and highlighting key take home points for each session. Preparatory readings will be provided, as well as a bibliography for participants to continue to study the course content’s more in depth.
Evaluation
A short questionnaire in electronic format (Google forms) will be used for an evaluation of the learning. The questionnaire will include ten questions (five free and five multiple answers) to answer in 30 minutes, and will be sent the day after the end of the course.
